Hair Care Guides for Beaded Weft & K-Tip Extensions
Congratulations on your new extensions! With the right care, your extensions can stay beautiful, healthy, and long-lasting. Follow this guide to protect your investment and keep your hair looking fabulous between appointments.
For Beaded-Wefts:
DAILY CARE
1. Brushing
Use a loop brush or a wet brush with soft bristles.
Hold the top of your weft with your hand to avoid tugging or pulling on the beads.
Start at the ends and work your way up to the roots.
Brush 2–3 times daily to prevent matting or tangling.
2. Styling
Use low to medium heat on hot tools.
Always apply a heat protectant spray.
Avoid flat-ironing directly on the beads or base of the weft.
WASHING & CONDITIONING
1. Frequency
Wash your hair 1–2 times per week to avoid loosening the beads.
Use sulfate-free, extension-safe shampoo and conditioner.
2. Technique
Gently cleanse your scalp using the pads of your fingers.
Shampoo in a downward motion—never scrub or pile hair on top of your head.
Apply conditioner mid-shaft to ends only (avoid the weft base).
3. Drying
Pat dry with a microfiber towel—don’t rub.
Blow dry your roots and weft base on cool or medium heat. Never leave the weft area wet.
SLEEP CARE
Always brush your hair before bed.
Put your hair in a loose braid or ponytail to prevent tangling.
Use a silk or satin pillowcase to reduce friction and frizz.
SWIMMING & WORKOUTS
Chlorine and saltwater can dry out and damage extensions.
Before swimming, apply a leave-in conditioner and wear your hair in a braid or bun.
Rinse immediately after swimming and wash as soon as possible.
After workouts, allow your scalp to dry thoroughly or use a dry shampoo at the roots.
MAINTENANCE APPOINTMENTS
Return for a move-up every 6–8 weeks.
Don’t try to move or remove the extensions yourself.
Notify your stylist of any discomfort, slippage, or bead exposure.
PRODUCTS TO AVOID
Products with sulfates, alcohol, or heavy oils near the wefts.
Dry shampoos with high alcohol content.
Deep conditioners on the weft or root area.
PRO TIPS
Extensions don’t get natural oils from your scalp—add moisture with leave-in conditioner or hair oils (mid to ends only).
Use a clarifying shampoo once a month (avoid the weft area) if you use heavy styling products.
For K-Tip Extensions:
1. Before Installation
Healthy hair = longer-lasting extensions.
• Wash & Clarify
Start with clean, product-free hair. A clarifying shampoo is recommended to remove all oils and residue.
• Skip Conditioner at the Roots
Conditioner should only be applied from mid-shaft down to ensure the keratin bonds adhere properly.
• Trim Ends
Remove split ends before your appointment to reduce tangling and improve the blend.
• Strengthen & Hydrate
Do a protein or moisture treatment a few days before your appointment to strengthen your hair.
2. Daily Maintenance
Brushing & Detangling
• Use a Soft Bristle or Loop Brush
Brush 2–3 times daily, starting at the ends and working your way up.
• Be Gentle at the Bonds
Avoid tugging or yanking near the keratin tips to prevent stress on your natural hair.
• Separate the Bonds Daily
Use your fingers to gently separate the extensions to prevent matting and tangling at the roots.
Styling
• Use Heat Sparingly
Always apply a heat protectant, and avoid applying direct heat to the keratin bonds.
• Avoid Oil-Based Products at the Roots
Keep serums and oils on the mid-shaft to ends. Oils near the bonds can cause slippage.
• Dry Thoroughly
Always blow-dry your roots and bonds after washing. Never go to bed with wet hair.
3. Washing Your Hair
• Wait 48 Hours Post-Install
Allow the bonds to fully set before washing for the first time.
• Shampoo in a Downward Motion
Use a sulfate-free shampoo. Do not scrub or tangle your hair during washing.
• Condition from Mid-Lengths Down
Avoid conditioner near the bonds to prevent them from softening.
• Rinse Thoroughly
Product buildup can lead to itching or bond breakdown—be sure to rinse well.
4. Sleeping with Extensions
• Always Dry Hair Before Bed
Sleeping with wet hair can cause tangling and weaken the keratin bonds.
• Use a Silk or Satin Pillowcase
Reduces friction and helps prevent frizz and tangles.
• Braid or Wrap Hair
Put hair in a loose braid, ponytail, or low bun to keep it tangle-free overnight.
5. Scalp & Natural Hair Care
• Keep Scalp Clean and Healthy
You can use a dry scalp serum or light mist if needed—avoid buildup near the bonds.
• Monitor for Tension
If you feel discomfort, excessive tension, or itching, consult your stylist right away.
6. Removal & Reinstallation
• Never Remove K-Tips at Home
Improper removal can damage your natural hair. Always book a professional removal appointment.
• Rehydrate & Repair
Follow removal with deep conditioning and strengthening treatments to restore your hair.
7. Appointment Maintenance Tips
• K-tip extensions are typically worn for 3–4 months depending on your hair growth and maintenance routine.
• Schedule a check-in appointment around the halfway mark to ensure bonds are secure and hair is healthy.
